VoV Dataset

A VoV Dataset returns the Detail and/or Summary results from each selected View as separate data tables.

VoV Datasets are useful when results from multiple Views need to be included in the same reporting process while keeping each View's data separate.

Why Use a VoV Dataset?

A VoV Dataset can be used to:

  • Combine multiple Views into a single data source
  • Use multiple View results in Finished Reports
  • Use multiple View results in Visualize
  • Export multiple View results into a single Excel workbook
  • Keep each View's Detail and/or Summary results as separate data tables

Creating a VoV Dataset

Step 1: Open the VoV Builder

Open the VoV Builder from VDM.

Step 2: Select BuildDataSet

In the VoV properties, set VoV Option to BuildDataSet.

Step 3: Add the Views

Select Add View and add each View that will be included in the Dataset.

For this example, the following Views are used:

  • Sales_By_Date.vdm
  • Returns_By_Date.vdm

Step 4: Review the View Settings

Confirm that each View has the correct Connection Profile and return type configured.

For this example, both Views are configured to return their Detail data.

The Views use the following source tables:

Sales_By_Date.vdm

  • Source table: DemoSales

Returns_By_Date.vdm

  • Source table: DemoReturns

Step 5: Save the Dataset VoV

Select Save and save the VoV.

For this example, the VoV is saved as:

Sales_Returns_Dataset.vdmv

Running the VoV Dataset

Open the saved VoV in VDM and run it.

VDM executes each View included in the Dataset and returns the results as separate data tables.

Unlike a Single Summary VoV, the results from the Views are not combined into the same result row.

Example Results

In this example, the Dataset contains results from two Views.

Sales_By_Date Results

The Sales_By_Date.vdm View returns sales detail data, including fields such as:

  • Customer Name
  • Order Date
  • Product Category
  • Product Name
  • Quantity
  • Region
  • Sale ID
  • Sales Amount
  • Sales Rep
  • Unit Price

Returns_By_Date Results

The Returns_By_Date.vdm View returns return detail data, including fields such as:

  • Customer Name
  • Product Category
  • Product Name
  • Quantity Returned
  • Region
  • Return Amount
  • Return Date
  • Return ID
  • Return Reason

Using the Dataset

Because each View is returned as its own data table, the Dataset can be used when multiple View results are needed in the same reporting process without combining them into a single summary.

This can be useful with:

  • Finished Reports
  • Visualize
  • Excel exports

VoV Datasets also support Save With Data, allowing the currently loaded dataset to be saved with the View.
