VoV Builder Overview

The VoV Builder is used to create and manage View of Views (VoV) configurations in VDM.

A VoV allows multiple saved Views to be used together for reporting and analysis. Depending on the selected VoV option, View results can be combined into a single summary or returned as separate data tables.

Accessing the VoV Builder

Open the VoV Builder from the Controls section of VDM.

Toolbar Options

The VoV Builder toolbar includes the following options:

Option Description
Add View Adds a saved View to the VoV Builder.
Rebuild VoV Rebuilds the VoV using the current versions of its source Views.
Clear Links Removes all links between Views.

To remove an individual View, right-click the View and select Remove View.

VoV Options

The VoV Option controls how the selected Views are returned when the VoV is run.

SingleSummary

SingleSummary combines grouped and aggregated summary results from multiple Views into a single result.

The source Views must use compatible grouping structures, including matching grouping levels, data types, and grouping order.

BuildDataSet

BuildDataSet returns Detail and/or Summary results from the selected Views as separate data tables.

This is useful when multiple View results need to remain separate while being used within the same reporting process.

VoV Datasets can be used with:

  • Finished Reports
  • Visualize
  • Excel exports

Working with Views

After a View is added to the VoV Builder, select the View to review its settings.

Common View settings include:

Connection

Specifies the Connection Profile used by the selected View.

Type

Defines which results are returned from the View.

Depending on the VoV configuration, this can include:

  • Detail
  • Summary
  • Detail and Summary

ViewPath

Displays the file location of the selected source View.

If a source View is moved, update the ViewPath, rebuild the VoV, and save it.

Rebuilding a VoV

If changes are made to one of the source Views, the VoV should be rebuilt so the changes are reflected.

Select Rebuild VoV, then save the updated VoV.

Union Options

The VoV Builder may include options used when combining View data, such as:

  • Merge Columns
  • Union All

These options control how data is combined when applicable to the selected VoV configuration.
