Talk to Bridgit lets you have a live spoken conversation about a query or the report you are working with. You can ask questions, clarify requirements and continue the conversation without typing every message.
Before You Begin
Bridgit AI must be configured with an approved OpenAI API key before you begin. See Bridgit AI Overview and Usage Guide for setup information.
- Connect a working microphone or headset and confirm that Windows allows microphone access.
- Check that sound is playing through the intended speaker or headset.
- Use a VDM version and chat surface that offer Talk to Bridgit. Designer voice features require a version that includes that Designer integration.
- Open the relevant connection, query or report before asking report-specific questions.
Choose Live Conversation or Dictation
| Mode | What happens |
|---|---|
| Talk to Bridgit | Your speech becomes part of a live conversation, and Bridgit can respond through voice. |
| Dictation | Your recorded speech is transcribed into the message field so you can review and send the text. |
These modes use the microphone control differently. The existing Push-to-Talk article describes the dictation workflow.
Start Talking
- Open Ask Bridgit in the area where you want to work.
- If a Focus selection is available, select Query Building or the appropriate open report viewer.
- Open the chat’s + menu and enable Talk to Bridgit.
- Select the Microphone control to start the voice discussion.
- Allow microphone access if prompted, then speak your request.
While a voice discussion is active, the microphone control provides an option to end it. Selecting the Talk to Bridgit option chooses the mode; use the microphone control to start or end the discussion.
Ask a Question or Request Report Work
State one clear request and provide the relevant reporting context. For example:
Explain the main differences between the categories in this report.
For query building, describe the fields, filters and calculations you need. Answer any clarification in the same discussion. Review the query and Auto Run setting just as you would when typing. A spoken acknowledgment means the request was received; wait for execution feedback before treating the report as complete.
Continue, Interrupt or Type a Follow-Up
- Pause to allow Bridgit to respond, then ask a follow-up about the same query or report.
- If you interrupt a spoken answer, state the correction or the next question clearly.
- You can send a typed follow-up in an active voice discussion. It is handled as part of that conversation.
- When a voice answer provides source links, open the links from the chat to review the supporting information.
For report analysis, keep the intended viewer active and confirm which report is being discussed. After refreshing or changing a report, allow Bridgit to use the current context rather than relying on an earlier answer.
End the Voice Discussion
- Select the active Microphone control to end the discussion.
- Confirm that the active-listening state has ended.
- Continue by typing if needed.
Note: Ending the voice discussion is not the same as undoing a query or report change. Review any work already applied, and use the relevant Stop or Undo control when you intend to cancel work or reverse a change.
Adjust Voice Settings
VDM Settings includes Realtime Voice Model, Realtime Voice, Voice Turn Eagerness, Voice Activity Detection and Mic Sensitivity. Available controls depend on the installed version.
Voice Turn Eagerness controls how readily semantic voice detection treats your turn as complete. Mic Sensitivity applies when Voice Activity Detection uses server_vad; it is not the sensitivity control for semantic_vad. Change one setting at a time and test with a short conversation.
If Voice Does Not Work
Confirm the selected microphone, Windows permissions, speaker output and Bridgit configuration. If the microphone is working but speech is being inserted as editable text, check that Talk to Bridgit is enabled. For continued problems, see Troubleshooting Bridgit AI.
