Bridgit can assist with a variety of technical tasks, including: data analysis and interpretation, troubleshooting and diagnosing VDM logs, and helping to write and optimize queries.
Where Do You Access Bridgit AI?
Bridgit AI capabilities are fully integrated into the VDM application. The main navigation menu includes a dedicated section for Bridgit, featuring options for Chat and Settings. In the Settings, users can customize the AI assistant's response behavior for both the Finished Report Viewer and the Visualize Viewer.
The “Ask Bridgit” AI assistant can be accessed through the chat interface, allowing users to analyze logs and gain clearer insights and explanations. Additionally, there is an Ask Bridgit icon located in the upper-right corner of the main toolbar for quick access.
How to Set Up Bridgit AI
Important Note: To begin, you will need to obtain an OpenAI API key directly from OpenAI.
After obtaining your OpenAI API key, please follow the steps below to configure it within VDM:
- Launch VDM with administrative privileges.
- Navigate to Settings. The API key must be configured in User Options, Global Options, and Service Options. (Important Note: Ensure that the same API key and model settings are consistently applied across all three configuration sections.)

- Locate the Bridgit AI section and enter the following:
- Analysis Model: gpt-5.4 or latest
- API Key: Paste your OpenAI API key
- Chat Model: gpt-5.4 or latest

- Locate the Bridgit AI section and enter the following:

Knowledge Editor (Beta)
Beginning with VDM 2026.04.21, administrators can configure profile-specific knowledge for Bridgit AI through the Knowledge Editor.
The Knowledge Editor allows administrators to define how Bridgit AI understands a connection profile by configuring:
- Schema discovery and metadata
- Preferred joins and relationship guidance
- Business vocabulary and aliases
- Example reports and query patterns
- Memory and agent instructions
- Retrieval and health monitoring settings
To access the Knowledge Editor:
- Open the Tables and Fields panel.
- Right-click a Connection Profile.
- Select Edit Knowledge (Beta).
The Knowledge Editor is intended primarily for administrators responsible for configuring and maintaining Bridgit AI behavior within a connection profile.

This will open the Bridgit AI chat interface, providing more detailed insights and context for the selected log message.
