Article Goal
Learn how to update a VDM view’s serialization so it can run properly in the latest versions of WebReports.
Why Update a View’s Serialization?
When upgrading to WebReports version 11.1.2.0 or later, any VDM views that were saved in older versions (prior to 10.2.1.0) will fail to execute or will not appear in the Completed section after scheduling.
By updating the view’s serialization format, you ensure compatibility with the modern WebReports runtime engine.
Tip: If you are still using an older version of WebReports in parallel, keep a backup of the old version of the view for compatibility.
Use Case: After updating WebReports to 2024.2.6, your scheduled jobs are failing silently. Updating the views to modern serialization may resolve the issue.
Where Do You Update the View’s Serialization?
View serialization is updated automatically when you open the Finished Report Designer in VDM version 10.2.1.0 or later and then Save the view.
Steps to Update a View’s Serialization
Step 1: Open Your View in VDM
Launch VDM version 10.2.1.0 or newer
Open the view you want to update
Tip: You can check your VDM version by clicking Help → About in the VDM menu.
Step 2: Enter Finished Report Designer
From the open view, click on the Finished Report Designer tab
Step 3: Save the View
Click Save in the toolbar
This action will automatically update the serialization format in the background
That’s it! The view is now ready to be used with the latest WebReports versions.
Article Summary
To ensure that your views are compatible with modern versions of WebReports (version 11.1.2.0+), you must update their serialization. This can be done by simply opening the view in VDM version 10.2.1.0 or newer, accessing the Finished Report Designer, and clicking Save. This serialization format is necessary for proper scheduling, execution, and reporting in the updated WebReports environment.
If you skip this step, your views may silently fail to run or may not appear in the Completed list in WebReports.
