Update a View’s Serialization for WebReports Compatibility

Views created or saved in older versions of VDM may use older serialization that is not fully compatible with a newer WebReports environment.

Refreshing the View’s serialization in VDM can help prevent issues when the View is uploaded to or executed in WebReports.

When This May Be Needed

You may need to update a View’s serialization if:

The View was originally created in an older version of VDM.
The View does not execute correctly in WebReports.
The View does not appear as expected after execution.
The View was migrated from an older environment.
WebReports has been upgraded and the View has not been resaved in the current VDM version.

Open the View that needs to be updated.

Open Finished Report Designer for the View.

You do not need to make any changes to the Finished Report.

Opening Finished Report Designer allows VDM to load the report definition using the current serialization format.

Save the View in VDM.

VDM updates the View serialization in the background when the View is saved.

No additional serialization conversion process is required.

After saving the View, upload the updated version to WebReports.

You can use:

The updated View will then use the refreshed serialization when it is stored and executed in WebReports.

Updating the serialization does not change the purpose or design of the View.

The process refreshes the underlying saved View definition so it is compatible with the current VDM and WebReports environment.

If the View still does not work correctly after updating the serialization:

Verify that VDM and WebReports are running compatible versions.
Confirm that the correct View was saved and uploaded.
Verify the WebReports connection profile.
Test the View locally in VDM before uploading it again.
Republish or use Save and Upload to make sure WebReports has the updated version.
