Download and Install the ASP.NET Hosting Bundle

The ASP.NET Core Hosting Bundle supplies the .NET runtime and ASP.NET Core Module that IIS uses to host WebReports. IIS receives the website requests; these components allow the WebReports application to run.

Install the supported .NET 10 Hosting Bundle on the Windows/IIS server that will host WebReports. Review WebReports Deployment Requirements and Network Architecture for the applicable release requirements.

This is a Windows/IIS prerequisite. The WebReports Docker image includes its runtime; use WebReports Setup for Docker for that deployment approach.

Before You Begin

• Confirm you have administrative access to the WebReports server.
• Install IIS first. Follow Install Internet Information Services (IIS) for WebReports.
• If the Hosting Bundle was installed before IIS, rerun its installer after IIS is installed and repair the installation.
• Coordinate the required restart with the deployment administrator if the server already hosts websites.

Download the ASP.NET Hosting Bundle

1. Open Microsoft's Download .NET 10.0 page.
2. Locate the supported release's ASP.NET Core Runtime section under Run apps - Runtime.
3. In the Windows row, select Hosting Bundle in the Installers column.
4. Save the installer to a location accessible from the WebReports server and wait for the download to complete.

Choose the Hosting Bundle for IIS support. The SDK is intended for development, and the separate runtime download links are not the Hosting Bundle selection shown here.

Install or Repair the Hosting Bundle

1. On the WebReports server, open the downloaded Microsoft Hosting Bundle installer using an account with the required administrative permissions.
2. Review the Microsoft license terms and continue only if you accept them.
3. For a new installation, select Install. If repairing an installation after IIS was added, use Repair when offered.
4. Allow setup to finish. Confirm it reports success, then select Close.

If the installer reports that IIS is not enabled, complete the IIS installation before proceeding, then rerun the Hosting Bundle installer as appropriate. An IIS-missing warning is not evidence that WebReports hosting is ready.

Restart the Server or IIS Services

After installation or repair, restart the server, or have the administrator restart the required IIS services. Microsoft documents the following commands for an elevated command shell:

net stop was /y
net start w3svc

This stops Windows Process Activation Service (WAS) and starts the World Wide Web Publishing Service (W3SVC). Restore any other dependent services required by the deployment. This operation can interrupt other IIS-hosted sites; coordinate it with the server administrator.

Verify the Hosting Components

1. Check the runtimes. Open a new command shell on the server and run:

dotnet --list-runtimes

Confirm that Microsoft.NETCore.App and Microsoft.AspNetCore.App include the supported 10.0.x runtime. This command lists runtimes for the invoked dotnet architecture, so use the appropriate installation when checking an x64 or x86 deployment. See Microsoft's dotnet command reference.

2. Check the IIS hosting module. In File Explorer, locate %ProgramFiles%\IIS\Asp.Net Core Module\V2 and confirm aspnetcorev2.dll is present. Its Properties → Details tab shows the module version. The module has its own version number; it does not use the same numbering as the .NET runtime.
3. Confirm startup after deployment. Once the remaining WebReports installation steps are complete, verify the site starts without a missing-runtime or hosting-module error.

The runtime list alone does not establish that the IIS module is installed. If components are missing or setup fails, review the installer result and logs and use Microsoft's troubleshooting guidance before continuing.
