Create a Scheduler job by adding a saved View, configuring an execution, and saving the job. An execution defines the connection, exports, email options, and any parameter values used for that View.
This example creates a DailySalesJob with a Daily Sales Report execution that exports a Finished Report as a PDF and emails it as an attachment. All names, paths, and email addresses shown are demo information.

Before You Begin
Have a saved View and the connection profile you want to use. For this example, the View also needs a Finished Report.
If you plan to email the export, have an email profile configured.
1. Add a View to the Job
- Open Scheduler and select Job.
- Click New to start a new job if needed.
- On the Job ribbon, click Add in the View group.
- Browse to your saved View and open it.
- Select the View in the Views list.
The demo View has been added. Use Add (Wizard) to create its execution.
2. Add an Execution
- With the View selected, click Add (Wizard) in the Executions group.
- Enter an Execution Name, such as Daily Sales Report.
- Select the Connection Profile to use.
- Select the items to export. This example uses Export Finished Report.
The execution uses the DemoSales connection and exports a Finished Report.
- Click Next.
3. Configure the Export
- Select an Export Location.
- Enter an Export Filename.
- Select the file type to export. This example uses PDF.
- If needed, select Add Date Before or Add Date After, then enter the Date Value and Date Format.
- Review the filename preview and the file-type options.
The demo uses these settings:
| Setting | Example |
|---|---|
| Export Location | C:\Demo\Reports |
| Export Filename | DailySalesReport_ |
| File type | |
| Add Date After | Selected |
| Date Value | @Date |
| Date Format | MMddyyyy-HHmmss |
The PDF filename includes a date and time after the report name.
- Click Next. If you selected multiple export items, configure each export page that appears.
For additional date options, see Using Reserved Words in Export Filenames.
4. Configure Email Delivery (Optional)
To email this execution’s exported report:
- Select Enable Email Delivery.
- Select an Email Delivery Profile.
- Enter the recipient in To and add CC recipients if needed.
- Enter the Subject and Body.
- Select Attach File to include the exported report.
The demo emails the PDF to sales@example.com using the DemoEmail profile.
- Configure success or failure alerts if needed, then click Next.
If this execution does not need its own email, leave Enable Email Delivery unchecked. Include in Job Email is a separate option; see Job Emails for that setup.
5. Enter Parameters, If Applicable
If the View contains parameters, enter the values required for this execution when the parameter page appears.
The parameter must already exist in the View before it can be added or edited in the execution. The View used in this example has no parameters, so this page is not shown.
For date parameters and reserved words, see Using Reserved Words in Job Date Parameters.
6. Finish the Wizard
On the Enable Post Processing page, configure Enable Command Post Processing or Enable PowerShell Post Processing only if your workflow requires it.
For this example, leave both options unchecked.
Post-processing is optional. Both options are disabled in this example.
Click Finish to add the execution to the job.
7. Save the Job
- Confirm that the View and its execution appear in the job.
- Add any additional Views or executions you need.
- Click Save on the ribbon.
- Choose a location and enter a job filename, such as DailySalesJob.vdmj.
- Click Save in the file dialog.
The saved DailySalesJob contains the Daily Sales Report execution.
Saving a job does not create a calendar appointment. To set when it runs, continue with Scheduling Jobs Using VDM Scheduler.
Verify the Job
Test the job and confirm that the expected export is created. If email delivery is enabled, confirm that the message and attachment arrive.
For troubleshooting, review Monitoring Scheduler Activity Using Logs.
