If VDM reports an error when attempting to write to the Windows Event Logs, review the Write to Event Logs setting under User Options.
You may see an error similar to:
Error writing to event logs: The source was not found, but some or all event logs could not be searched. Inaccessible logs: Security.
Check the Write to Event Logs Setting
- Open Settings in VDM.
- Select User Options.
- Locate the Logging section.
- Find Write to Event Logs.
Write to Event Logs setting under User Options > Logging.
If Write to Event Logs is set to True, VDM attempts to write applicable events to the Windows Event Logs.
If Windows does not allow the application to access the required Event Logs, an error may occur.
Disable Windows Event Log Writing
If writing to the Windows Event Logs is not required for your environment, set:
Write to Event Logs: False
VDM will continue to use its configured application logs without attempting to write the applicable entries to the Windows Event Logs.
If Windows Event Logging Is Required
If Write to Event Logs must remain enabled and the error continues, the Windows account running VDM must have the permissions required by Windows to access the applicable Event Logs.
Windows Event Log permissions are controlled by Windows and may require assistance from your system administrator.
Contact your IT administrator if additional Windows Event Log access is required.
