Setting Up the ODBC Driver
Step 1: Download and install the ODBC Driver.
1. Run the Downloaded MSI File: Locate the MSI file you downloaded, then double-click it to start the installation.
2. Complete the Installation Process: Follow the on-screen instructions step by step until the installation is finished.
Step 2: Modify the UCI.config File
1. Locate and Open the UCI.config File: Find the file at the following path on your computer: C:\U2\UniDK\Config
. Use a text editor, such as Notepad or WordPad, to open the UCI.config file.
2. Enter Your Server Information: Look for areas in the file marked with placeholders like “Enter Your Server Info Here” and replace the placeholder text with the specific server information you’ve been provided.

Example: If your server is named "MyServerName" enter that name in the indicated section.
3. Save and Close: Save the changes you made to the file, then close the text editor to complete the process.
Step 3: Create a new ODBC data source.
(Note: Default port for Universe ODBC is 31438)
1. Open the ODBC Data Sources application: Use Windows Search and type ODBC Data Sources to find it, then select 32-bit or 64-bit, depending on the driver you installed.
Important Note:

If your system uses a 32-bit driver, you must configure the 32-bit ODBC Data Source.

If your system uses a 64-bit driver, you must configure the 64-bit ODBC Data Source
2. Go to the System DSN Tab: In the ODBC Manager, click on the System DSN tab to manage system-wide data sources.
3. Add a New Data Source: Click the Add button to start creating a new data source.
4. Choose the Driver: From the list of available drivers, select the U2 32-bit or 64-bit ODBC Driver (depending on your system) and click Finish.
5. Enter Your Configuration Details: Fill in the setup fields with your server information and any other required details provided by your database.
6. Test the Connection: Use the Test Connection button to ensure your setup works correctly. If the connection is successful, save the configuration to complete the process.
Step 4: Create a connection profile using the new setup.
(Note: Default port for Universe ODBC is 31438)
1. Open VDM: Launch VDM and navigate to the Database tab in the main menu.
2. Create a New Connection: In the ribbon bar, click New to begin setting up a new connection profile.
3. Select Your Connection Type: From the Connection Type dropdown menu, choose Select Platform, then click Next.
4. Choose Your Data Source: In the DSN dropdown menu, select the data source you created during the ODBC setup.
Note: If the list is empty, click Refresh List.
5. Enter Your Server Information: Provide the Server Name you used during the ODBC configuration process.
6. Select Your Database Platform: Choose the appropriate platform for your database (e.g., ManageMed).
7. Enter Your Credentials: Input the Username and Password associated with your database setup.
8. Test Your Connection: Click Test Connection to verify that the connection works properly.
9. Save the Profile: If the test is successful, click Next, then Finish to save your new connection profile.
10. Load Your Connection Information: To populate the connection with your database details, click the Load All button. Your new connection will be populated in the list of available databases under Tables and Fields.
