Common Email Provider Settings

This article provides common email server settings that may be used when configuring email-related features in VDM.

VDM can use SMTP to send email and, where applicable, IMAP or POP3 to receive email.

When to use these settings

Use the appropriate settings based on the VDM feature being configured:

• SMTP — Used to send email from VDM, including Email Profiles, scheduled report emails, and notifications.
• IMAP or POP3 — Used only by features that receive or read email, such as Email Auto Scheduler Jobs.

Note: For Microsoft 365 environments, VDM also supports Microsoft Graph as an alternative to SMTP for sending email.

SMTP settings for common providers

Gmail

Gmail may require an App Password depending on the account's authentication configuration.

Microsoft 365 / Outlook

For Microsoft 365, VDM also supports Microsoft Graph for sending email.

Yahoo Mail

Yahoo may require an App Password.

Apple iCloud Mail

Apple iCloud requires an App-Specific Password for supported third-party applications.

AOL Mail

An App Password may be required.

Zoho Mail

Custom or private domain

If your email is hosted through a web-hosting provider or private domain, obtain the SMTP settings from your email provider or administrator.

The following settings may be needed only for VDM features that receive or read email.

Obtain the incoming mail settings from your email provider or administrator.

The exact server name, port, and security requirements can vary by provider.

Troubleshooting

If VDM cannot send or receive email, verify the following:

• The server name is correct.
• The correct port is being used.
• SSL or TLS is enabled when required.
• The username and password are correct.
• An App Password is being used if required by the provider.
• The firewall or network is not blocking the required port.
• The provider allows the authentication method being used.

For SMTP Email Profiles, use Send Test Email in VDM to verify the configuration.

Some email providers require additional authentication methods.

Authentication requirements can change. Check with your email provider or administrator if the settings in this article do not work with your account.
