VDM .NET 10 Runtime Installation Guide

Use this guide if you are preparing a computer for VDM or VDM displays a missing-runtime message when you open it. VDM versions 2026.03.30.0 and later require both Microsoft runtime packages below.

Choose the correct packages

Required package Download selection
.NET Windows Desktop Runtime 10 .NET Desktop Runtime → Windows → x64 installer
ASP.NET Core Runtime 10 ASP.NET Core Runtime → Windows → x64 installer

Open the official Microsoft .NET 10 download page and use the Run apps – Runtime section. Choose the current supported 10.0.x patch for each package. VDM does not require the SDK for normal use. The plain .NET Runtime alone does not replace both packages listed above.

If the required 10.0.x x64 runtimes are already installed, continue to verification. Other runtime versions may be used by other applications; leave them installed.

The example installer screenshots below show 10.0.5. Download the current supported 10.0.x patch rather than looking for that exact patch number.

1. Install the Windows Desktop Runtime

  1. Close VDM.
  2. On the Microsoft .NET 10 download page, find .NET Desktop Runtime and select the Windows x64 installer.
  3. Run the downloaded installer and select Install. Approve the Windows permission prompt if it appears.
  4. Wait for installation to finish, then select Close.

2. Install the ASP.NET Core Runtime

  1. Return to the same Microsoft .NET 10 download page.
  2. Find ASP.NET Core Runtime and select the Windows x64 installer.
  3. Run the installer and select Install. Approve the Windows permission prompt if it appears.
  4. Wait for installation to finish, then select Close.

3. Install WebView2 on Windows Server 2019

Windows Server 2019 also requires the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. If it is already installed, continue to verification.

  1. Open the official Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime download page.
  2. Under Evergreen Standalone Installer, select x64 and complete the download.
  3. Run the installer, approve the Windows permission prompt if shown, and allow setup to complete.

4. Verify the installation

  1. Open VDM again.
  2. If another missing-runtime prompt appears, check that both required packages were installed as 10.0.x x64 packages.
  3. Confirm that VDM opens without a missing-runtime message.
  4. If you are completing a new installation, return to Installing VDM and Required Components for OPTIONS setup and registration.

If installation fails or VDM still does not open, contact BridgeWorks Support with your Windows version, VDM version, and the exact error message.
