VDM NET 10 Runtime Installation Guide

This article explains how to install the Microsoft runtime components required to run VDM beginning with version 2026.03.30.0.

Systems running Windows Server 2019 also require the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime for full VDM compatibility.

Required runtime packages

VDM requires the following Microsoft runtime components:

• Microsoft .NET Windows Desktop Runtime 10 (x64)
• Microsoft ASP.NET Core Runtime 10 (x64)

If either runtime is not installed, VDM may prompt you to download and install it when the application is launched.

Install the .NET Windows Desktop Runtime

1. Open VDM.
2. If the desktop runtime is not installed, a prompt appears.
3. Select Download it now.
4. Your web browser opens to the Microsoft runtime download page.
5. If the download does not begin automatically, select the option to download it manually.
6. After the download completes, open your Downloads folder or the location where the file was saved.
7. Double-click the desktop runtime installer.
8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Install the ASP.NET Core Runtime

1. Open VDM again.
2. If the ASP.NET Core Runtime is not installed, a prompt appears.
3. Select Download it now.
4. Your web browser opens to the Microsoft runtime download page.
5. If the download does not begin automatically, select the option to download it manually.
6. After the download completes, open your Downloads folder or the location where the file was saved.
7. Double-click the ASP.NET Core Runtime installer.
8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Install the WebView2 Runtime on Windows Server 2019

Windows Server 2019 also requires the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime.

This step is required for Windows Server 2019. It can be skipped on other supported Windows versions where WebView2 is already available.

Download the WebView2 Runtime

Download the Evergreen Standalone Installer x64 from Microsoft:

Select the x64 Evergreen Standalone Installer.

Install the WebView2 Runtime

1. Select Accept and Download to download the WebView2 Runtime installer.
2. After the download completes, open your Downloads folder or the location where the file was saved.
3. Double-click the WebView2 Runtime installer.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
5. When the installation is complete, select Close.
