Prerequisites

Uninstall any existing Microsoft Runtime packages from the system before installing VDM .NET 10.

Before uninstalling or installing any runtime, ensure the following:

• You have administrative privileges on the system
• You understand which applications depend on the runtime
• You have backups or restore points if required

Uninstalling Runtime Packages (Windows)

1. Open Control Panel
2. Navigate to Programs > Programs and Features
3. Locate any runtime related to a Microsoft Runtime package
4. Select the runtime
5. Click Uninstall
6. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the removal

Required Runtime Packages

The following runtimes must be installed before using VDM NET 10. If they are not already installed, VDM will prompt you during your first launch to download and install each required runtime. Systems running Windows Server 2019 may require an additional runtime. Details for this requirement are provided later in this guide.

• .NET Windows Desktop Runtime 10 (x64)
• .NET ASP.NET Core Runtime 10 (x64)

Step-by-step installation

Steps to Install the Desktop Runtime:

• Open VDM.
• If the desktop runtime is not installed, a prompt will appear.
• Click “Download it now.”
• Your web browser will open to the runtime download page.
• If the download does not start automatically, click “click here to download manually.”
• Once the download is complete, go to your Downloads (or the location where you saved the file).
• Double-click the desktop runtime file to run it.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Steps to Install the ASP.NET Runtime:

• Open VDM again.
• If the ASP.NET runtime is not installed, a prompt will appear.
• Click “Download it now.”
• Your web browser will open to the runtime download page.
• If the download does not start automatically, click “click here to download manually.”
• Once the download is complete, go to your Downloads (or the location where you saved the file).
• Double-click the ASP.NET Core runtime file to run it.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Steps to Install the WebView2 Runtime:

Important: This installation is ONLY required for Windows Server 2019, as it does not include the WebView2 Runtime by default. This step can be skipped on other server\workstation versions where the runtime is already included.

Installation Steps for WebView2 Runtime

• Click Accept and Download to begin downloading the WebView2 Runtime installer.
• Once the download and installation are complete, click Close to exit the setup window.

• Double-click the WebView2 runtime file to run it.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
