Use this checklist before installing VDM or preparing a computer for a new user. It covers supported Windows versions, hardware, display settings, Microsoft runtimes, and data connections.
Supported operating systems
VDM supports these 64-bit Microsoft operating systems:
- Windows 11
- Windows Server 2019
- Windows Server 2022
- Windows Server 2025
Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 are not officially supported by BridgeWorks. If VDM is running on an older Windows version, plan an upgrade to a supported version.
Hardware requirements

Larger datasets may require additional RAM for optimal performance.
Display requirements
VDM does not currently support 4K monitor resolutions. BridgeWorks recommends 1920 × 1080 resolution with Windows display scaling set to 100%.
Unsupported resolutions or scaling above 100% may cause interface rendering or usability issues. If controls appear small or blurry, see Configuring High DPI Scaling for VDM. The troubleshooting override does not change these support requirements.
Required Microsoft components
VDM versions 2026.03.30.0 and later require:
- Microsoft .NET Windows Desktop Runtime 10 (x64)
- Microsoft ASP.NET Core Runtime 10 (x64)
Windows Server 2019 also requires the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. See the VDM .NET 10 Runtime Installation Guide for downloads, installation, and verification. If a required .NET runtime is missing, VDM may display a download prompt at launch.
Data sources and connection options
The connection options available in VDM include:
- Datasent
- InterProse ACE
- InterSystems Caché, DeepSee, IRIS, IRIS BI, and IRIS for Health
- Microsoft Access
- Microsoft SQL Server (SQLClient)
- MySQL
- Oracle
- RevQ SaaS
- Rocket U2
- Snowflake
- Standard ODBC and Microsoft OLE DB for ODBC
- Web Reports
VDM also supports importing delimited text files and fixed-width text files.
Connection requirements depend on the selected provider, database version, and environment. An ODBC driver is needed when the selected connection uses ODBC; it is not a separate requirement for every VDM connection. Confirm the required driver and configuration with your database administrator. See Understanding 32-bit vs. 64-bit ODBC Driver Configurations when configuring ODBC.
Before installation
- Keep Windows updated.
- Confirm that you can install applications and the required runtimes.
- Obtain the connection details, permissions, and any provider-specific drivers needed for your data source.
