Upgrading Finished Reports for .NET 10 Compatibility

Why Finished Reports Require Upgrading

VDM 2026.03.30 introduces a new Finished Report serialization format to support .NET 10 compatibility.

Older Finished Reports created in previous versions of VDM may use an older serialization format. To ensure compatibility with newer versions of VDM and .NET 10, these reports must be upgraded to the latest format.

For individual reports, this upgrade occurs automatically when the report is opened.

For larger report libraries, the Batch Upgrade FR utility can be used to upgrade multiple reports at once.

Launching the Batch Upgrade FR Utility

To launch the utility:

1. Open VDM.
2. Select Help.
3. Select Batch Upgrade FR.

When launched, VDM displays a message explaining that selected Finished Reports will be upgraded to the latest serialization format and saved to the output folder you specify.

Select OK to continue.

Selecting Reports to Upgrade

After launching the utility:

1. Select Select Views.
2. Browse to the Finished Report files you want to upgrade using the file explorer window.
3. Select one or more Finished Reports and choose Open.
4. Specify the Output Folder where the upgraded Finished Reports will be saved.
5. Review the list of selected views.
6. Select Upgrade to begin the upgrade process.

The selected Finished Reports are displayed in the Selected Views list. When the upgrade completes, the upgraded reports are saved to the specified Output Folder.

When to Use Batch Upgrade FR

The Batch Upgrade FR utility is useful when:

• Upgrading multiple Finished Reports.
• Preparing report libraries for .NET 10 compatibility.
• Migrating to newer VDM versions.
• Avoiding the need to manually open and upgrade reports one at a time.

Note: Opening an older Finished Report automatically upgrades it to the latest supported serialization format.
