What Is a Cross-Band Line?
A Cross-Band Line is a visual line element that spans vertically across multiple report bands (e.g., Group Headers, Details, Footers). It is commonly used to create column dividers or to draw vertical borders across an entire report layout.
Use Case: Use cross-band lines to visually organize tabular data by separating content into vertical columns that span all bands of the report layout.
Why Use Cross-Band Lines?
Cross-band lines are useful for:
Drawing column separators that run from header to footer
Visually segmenting content when multiple grouped bands are used
Applying a one-step solution to unify vertical layout formatting
Note: Unlike normal line elements, cross-band lines are designed to bridge multiple sections without needing to manually align lines in each band.
Where Are Cross-Band Lines Added?
Cross-band lines are added in the Finished Reports Designer by dragging them from the toolbox into the report layout.
Steps to Use Cross-Band Lines
Step 1: Open Your View
Open a View and click into the Finished Reports Designer to begin building or editing your layout.
Step 2: Add a Cross-Band Line
From the toolbox, drag the Cross-Band Line control into the design surface.
Step 3: Position the Cross-Band Line
Click and drag the line vertically so it spans multiple bands—such as the Group Header, Detail, and Group Footer bands. Adjust horizontal placement to match the column boundary.
Tip: You can add multiple cross-band lines for each column divider needed.
Step 4: Preview the Report
Click Preview to confirm that the lines span the desired sections. Adjust the position if the line doesn't align across all bands.
Article Summary

They’re ideal for drawing full-height column dividers without the need to manually match each band’s individual lines. With just a few steps in the Finished Reports Designer, you can create clean, structured layouts that improve readability and professionalism.
