Keeping Results Together (Keep Together) in Finished Reports

The Keep Together option helps prevent related report content from being split across pages when the content can fit together on a single page.

It is commonly used with grouped data or detail sections to keep report output easier to read when printing or exporting.

Why Use Keep Together?

Without Keep Together, a group or detail section may begin near the bottom of one page and continue onto the next page.

When Keep Together is enabled, Finished Reports attempts to keep that content together on the same page when space allows.

This can help:

  • Keep grouped records easier to read
  • Reduce awkward page splits
  • Improve printed report layout
  • Keep related information together when exporting to PDF or other paged formats

Note: Keep Together does not guarantee that content will always remain on one page. If the content is larger than a page, it must still be split.

Where Keep Together Is Configured

Keep Together is configured on report bands in the Finished Reports Designer.

Select the band where you want to apply the setting, then open the band’s task menu.

Step 1: Open the Finished Reports Designer

Run the View and open the Finished Reports Designer.

Step 2: Select the Band

Select the band where you want to apply Keep Together.

For example, you may apply the setting to a:

  • Group Header
  • Detail band
  • Other report band where related content should remain together

Step 3: Open Band Tasks

Open the selected band’s task menu using the gear icon.

Step 4: Enable Keep Together

Enable Keep Together in the band’s task menu.

In this example, Keep Together is enabled for both the Group Header and Detail bands.

Step 5: Preview the Report

Select Preview and review the report layout.

Confirm that:

  • Grouped or related content stays together when space allows
  • Page breaks occur in logical locations
  • No unexpected blank pages are created
  • The report remains readable when printed or exported

Step 6: Save the Report

After confirming the layout, save the Finished Report.

Example Output

Keep Together Disabled

When Keep Together is disabled, related group data may be split between pages.

Keep Together Enabled

When Keep Together is enabled, Finished Reports attempts to keep the related content on the same page when enough space is available.
