Article Goal
Learn how to enable and configure the Single Master Filter feature in Visualize, allowing users to filter dashboard elements by selecting a value in another visualization (e.g., a pie slice).
What Is a Single Master Filter?
A Single Master Filter lets you apply interactive filtering across multiple elements in a Visualize dashboard. When a user clicks on a single value (such as a pie chart segment), it automatically filters the data shown in other visual elements (like a grid or pivot table).
Use Case: Click on an Employee slice in a pie chart and instantly see all orders tied to that employee in a grid or pivot. This improves interactive data exploration without needing additional filter controls.
Why Use Single Master Filter?
Enables dynamic filtering between dashboard elements
Enhances user interactivity for easier drill-down
Reduces dashboard clutter by removing the need for separate filter elements
Note: The Single Master Filter is limited to one selection at a time. For multiple selections, consider using the Multiple Master Filter feature instead.
Where Is It Used?
The Single Master Filter is enabled in the Visualize Designer inside VDM. It applies to interactive elements such as charts, grids, cards, and pivots.

Steps to Set Up Single Master Filter
Step 1: Open Visualize Designer
Run your View and then click on Visualize Designer from the VDM main interface.
Step 2: Add Visualize Elements
Insert two or more visualization elements (e.g., a Pie Chart and a Grid) into the dashboard.
Step 3: Select the Element to Act as the Filter
Click on the visualization that will act as the master filter.
Example: Select the Pie Chart element.
Step 4: Enable the Single Master Filter
Navigate to the Data tab and check Single Master Filter to enable it for the selected element.
Note: The Tools ribbon updates based on the selected element. You may see options like "Chart Tools," "Pie Tools," or "Grid Tools" depending on your selection.
Step 5: Interact with the Filter
Click on a slice of the pie chart. The grid or other elements will automatically update to reflect the filtered data based on your selection.
Use Case: Clicking on a Pie Chart segment for “Employee 4” filters the Grid to show only records tied to that employee.
Article Summary
The Single Master Filter allows dynamic, click-based filtering between Visualize elements—great for enabling intuitive data navigation. With just a few clicks, you can let users filter a dashboard by selecting a value from a chart or card, updating all related data instantly. Use this to build clean, interactive dashboards that are both informative and easy to use.
Use Case: Combine a chart and a table to let sales managers click on a product category in a pie chart and instantly see matching sales records in the grid—without using any dropdown filters.
