Why Use the Visualize Designer?
The Visualize Designer is your main workspace for building interactive dashboards and reports. It organizes available elements, database fields, and data sources in one interface, making it easier to drag, drop, and configure visualizations.
Use Case: If you want to quickly create a chart showing sales by region, you can drag fields from the Green Section into the data items pane, and then choose the appropriate element (chart, grid, map, etc.) from the Orange Section.
Where to Access the Visualize Designer
You can access the Visualize Designer directly from VDM’s main screen by clicking Visualize Designer.
Layout of the Visualize Designer
Orange Section – The available elements you can use in your visualization (charts, grids, cards, maps, etc.).
Red Section – The data source selector. You can choose between Summary or Details, with Details being the most common choice.
Green Section – The list of available fields from your dataset that you can drag into your visualization.
Steps to Use the Visualize Designer
Step 1: Open the Visualize Designer
Launch VDM and click Visualize Designer on the main screen.
Step 2: Select a Data Source
Choose between Details / Summary / Transposed. Most commonly, the Details (default) data source is used.
Step 3: Add Elements
Pick an element from the Orange Section (e.g., chart, grid, or card).
Step 4: Add Fields
Expand the tables in the Green Section to view available fields. Drag and drop fields into the Data Items Pane to start building your visualization.
Step 5: Customize the Visualization
Use the Data Items Pane to drag and drop values or arguments. Available options will vary depending on the element type.
