What Is a Database Connection in VDM?
A database connection allows VDM to communicate with your organization's data source. Once connected, VDM can retrieve tables, fields, and other database objects that are available to your account.
Database connections are stored as Connection Profiles, which contain the information needed to connect to a specific database.
Before You Begin
Before opening a database connection, ensure that:
- A connection profile has already been created.
- You have permission to access the database.
- The database server is available and online.
- Your network connection is active.
If you have not yet created a connection profile, see How to Create a Database Connection Profile in VDM.
Why Open a Database Connection?
Opening a database connection allows you to:
- Browse available database tables and fields.
- Create views and reports.
- Build filters and queries.
- Access data for analysis and reporting.
A connection must be open before any data can be queried, grouped, etc.
