Article Goal
Guide users through setting up a DeepSee / IRIS BI connection in VDM so they can build pivots, data visualizations, and finished reports using BI cubes from an InterSystems environment.
Why Use This Connection Type?
With this integration, you can:
-
Build interactive pivots and data visualizations using InterSystems BI cube data
-
Combine DeepSee/IRIS BI cubes with other VDM features such as Finished Reports
-
Eliminate the need for custom ODBC or database views to access analytic cubes
⚠️ Beta Notice:
This feature is currently in beta. Please share issues, feedback, or enhancement suggestions with our support team at support@bridgeworksllc.com.
Steps to Create a DeepSee or IRIS BI Connection in VDM
Step 1: Launch the Connection Wizard
-
In VDM, click the Database tab on the ribbon
-
Click New to open the Connection Wizard
Step 2: Select the Connection Type
From the Connection Type list, choose:InterSystems DeepSee / InterSystems IRIS BI
🧠 This is the designated type for DeepSee or IRIS BI cube access via REST API.
Step 3: Enter Connection Details
Provide the following information:
-
URL to DeepSee REST API
-
Format:
http://<host>:<port>/api/deepsee/v1/<namespace>/ -
Example:
http://localhost:57773/api/deepsee/v1/SAMPLES/
-
-
Username and Password (if authentication is required)
⚠️ Important: The DeepSee.RESTClient.cls page must be available on your InterSystems instance. If this page is missing or inaccessible, VDM will not be able to connect.
Step 4: Name and Finish the Connection Profile
Enter a name for your new Connection Profile, then click Finish.
📝 Use a clear and descriptive name (e.g.,
IRIS_BI_SAMPLES) to help with identification in multi-connection environments.
Step 5: Load the Connection
Click Load All to initialize the connection and load the cube metadata into VDM.
✅ You should now see your DeepSee/IRIS cubes listed in the Tables and Fields panel.
Article Summary
