Explain how to use the Pivot Grid control in Finished Reports to create cross-tabulated (pivot-style) reports and how to configure its layout, appearance, behavior, and data settings.
What / Why – Pivot Grid Reporting
What: The Pivot Grid control displays dynamic data. Column headers represent unique values from one field, row headers represent values from another, and each cell displays a summarized value.
Why: Pivot Grids provide a compact and flexible way to analyze complex datasets by allowing users to quickly compare totals, trends, and groupings across multiple dimensions.

Using the Pivot Grid Designer in Finished Reports
The Pivot Grid includes a built-in designer that allows you to configure layout and fields visually.
Step 1: Enable Finished Reports Pivot Grid
- Open Settings
- Select User Options
- Locate Pivot or Crosstab under Finished Reports and select Pivot Grid
Step 2: Open the Finished Reports Designer
Open an existing VDM View or create a new View
Run the View
Select Finished Reports Designer
Step 3: Adding the Pivot Grid
Select the Pivot Grid control and add it to the designer
Select the Pivot Grid control and open its Smart Tag to launch the Pivot Designer.
Step 4: Show the Field List
If data fields are not visible, click Show Field List in the Pivot Designer.
Step 5: Add Data Fields
Add fields to the Pivot Grid by:
Double-clicking a field, or
Dragging and dropping fields into the designer
Step 6: Configure the Layout
Click Layout, then drag and drop fields into the appropriate Pivot Areas:
Row
Column
Filter
Data
Click Apply to update the layout.
Step 7: Close the Designer
Once configuration is complete, click Close to return to the Finished Reports Designer.
