The Parameter Library allows you to save and reuse commonly configured View parameters. Parameters stored in the library can be organized into categories and added to other Views, reducing repeated configuration and helping maintain consistency across reports.
Access the Parameter Library
- Open or create a View.
- Locate the Query Builder section.
- Select Parameters.
- Locate the Parameter Library on the right side of the Parameters menu, below View Parameter Properties.
The Parameter Library displays the available categories, subcategories, and saved parameters.
Organize the Parameter Library
Parameters can be organized using top-level categories and subcategories.
Default Category
The Default category is included with the Parameter Library and cannot be renamed or removed.
Right-click the Default category to access the following options:
- Add Subcategory
- New Parameter
Create a Top-Level Category
- Right-click an empty area within the Parameter Library.
- Select Add Category.
- Enter a name for the category.
- Select OK.
The new category is added as a top-level category in the Parameter Library.
Manage a Custom Category
Right-click a custom category to access the following options:
- Add Subcategory
- Rename Category
- Remove Category
- New Parameter
Unlike the Default category, custom categories can be renamed or removed.
Create a Subcategory
- Right-click the top-level category where the subcategory should be created.
- Select Add Subcategory.
- In the Add Parameter Category window, enter a name for the new category.
- Select OK.
The new subcategory appears beneath the selected top-level category.
Create a Parameter in the Library
You can create and configure a new parameter directly from the Parameter Library.
- Right-click the category or subcategory where the parameter should be stored.
- Select New Parameter.
- In the New Parameter window, enter a name for the parameter.
- Select OK.
- Configure the parameter using the available View Parameter Properties.
The parameter is added to the selected category. Changes made to its properties are saved automatically.
Save an Existing View Parameter to the Library
An existing View parameter and its current configuration can be saved to the Parameter Library for use in other Views.
- Select the Parameters tab.
- Locate the parameter under View Parameter Properties.
- Right-click the parameter.
- Select Save to Library.
- In the Save to Library window, select the destination from the Category list.
- Select Save.
The parameter and its current configuration are added to the selected category.
Replace an Existing Library Parameter
If a parameter with the same name already exists in the selected category, VDM asks whether you want to replace it.
- Select Yes to replace the library parameter with the current View parameter and its configuration.
- Select No to keep the existing library parameter unchanged.
Add a Library Parameter to a View
- Locate the parameter in the Parameter Library.
- Right-click the parameter.
- Select Add/Update Current View Parameter.
The parameter and its saved configuration are added to the current View. If the parameter already exists in the View, it is updated using the configuration stored in the library.
Remove a Parameter from the Library
- Right-click the parameter in the Parameter Library.
- Select Remove from Library.
- Select Yes to confirm.
The parameter is permanently removed from the Parameter Library.
Remove a Category
- Right-click the custom category.
- Select Remove Category.
- Select Yes to confirm.
Caution: Removing a category also removes all subcategories and parameters stored under it.
The Default category cannot be removed.
