Summary
The Auto Detect ACE Data Types option allows VDM to automatically identify numeric and date values returned by InterProse ACE and assign the appropriate data type during import processing.
This helps ensure that calculations, aggregations, sorting, filtering, and formatting work correctly without requiring additional expressions or manual data conversions.
Why Use Auto Detect ACE Data Types?
When data is returned from InterProse ACE, numeric and date values may sometimes be interpreted as text strings.
When values are treated as strings:
- Sum and Count aggregations may not work correctly.
- Numeric calculations cannot be performed.
- Currency formatting may appear inconsistent.
- Date filtering and sorting may not behave as expected.
Enabling Auto Detect ACE Data Types allows VDM to recognize these values using their appropriate data types, making them available for reporting, grouping, filtering, and calculations.
Where to Find the Setting
The Auto Detect ACE Data Types option is available within the View-level options for InterProse ACE connections.
Note: This option is only visible when the View is connected to an InterProse ACE connection profile. If you are using another connection type, the setting will not be displayed.
Before and After Comparison
Before Enabling Auto Detect ACE Data Types
Numeric balances are imported as string values.
Because the values are treated as text:
- Aggregations such as Sum may not work correctly.
- Calculations cannot be performed directly.
- Formatting may be inconsistent.
After Enabling Auto Detect ACE Data Types
Numeric and date values are automatically recognized using the correct data type, allowing calculations, aggregations, filtering, and formatting to function as expected.
Benefits include:
- Sum, Count, and other aggregations work correctly.
- Numeric calculations can be performed.
- Currency formatting is applied consistently.
- Date values are properly recognized for filtering and sorting.
Tip: If a field is expected to be numeric but cannot be converted, verify the source data returned by ACE to ensure the values are stored consistently.
How to Enable Auto Detect ACE Data Types
- Open the ACE View.
- Navigate to the View Options.
- Enable Auto Detect ACE Data Types.
- Save the View.
- Run or refresh the View.
VDM will attempt to determine the appropriate data type for each column returned by ACE.
Article Summary
The Auto Detect ACE Data Types feature improves data handling for InterProse ACE connections by automatically identifying numeric and date values during import. This enables calculations, aggregations, sorting, filtering, and formatting to function correctly without requiring additional expressions or manual data conversion.
